Food should taste good, seems like a no brainer right. Well it isn't always that simple. I cook a lot of wild game and in my opinion all wild game should taste good but, you have to cook it right. I talk to a lot of people who tell me when they've had wild game it has an off flavor or the texture is stringy and the meat is dry. If that is the case I would be willing to bet that it wasn't cooked right. I always tell people that I have read 1000's of recipes and not a single one of them has ever read, when finished will taste like crap.
Nobody wants to eat things that taste bad and trying to convince people to eat something that they have had a bad experience with is difficult. My wife is always trying to shop healthier and buy food that is good for us. In the past she has brought home chips and crackers and snack foods that claim to be organic, healthy and delicious. Most of them meet two out of the three but the delicious part always gets missed. Most of the "healthy Snack foods" I have tried have a consistency like Styrofoam and taste like cardboard. Then I was introduced to Food Should Taste Good snacks.
Earlier this month I was invited to a dinner at the Wise Acre Eatery hosted by Food Should Taste Good (FSTG). FSTG is a company that makes and sells snack foods from high quality ingredients. All their chip varieties are gluten free, cholesterol free, have zero grams trans fats and most importantly taste great. I wasn't very familiar with FSTG until I showed up for the event and then immediately recognized the brand. The first question I asked was "do you sell your chips at Costco?" As it turns out my wife has been buying FSTG products and we have been eating them at home for some time. I just hadn't noticed because the chips tasted great and the crackers were wonderful. I had no idea they were good for me.
The Wise Acre Eatery served up a five course meal trying to incorporate FSTG snacks into each meal. They were very successful and every course that came out was fantastic. The two highlights for me were the squash soup with blue corn tortilla chips and the Kimchi cole slaw made with FSTG kimchi chips. FSTG has 19 different varieties of tortilla chip, I have not tried all of of them but the 4 different types I have tried have all been fantastic. They all have the right kind of crunch for a chip which many health food snacks seem to miss and the flavor is spot on. You would never even know you were eating a healthier snack.
At the end of the night we were all sent home with a goodie bag with samples of their chips and crackers and some of their recipe cards to try at home. When I looked through the recipes one of them stood out to me and seemed like something new to try. That might seem strange to say about a chicken salad recipe but I didn't have any chicken in the fridge what I did have were pheasant breasts. I have never seen a pheasant salad recipe so I figured I would give it a shot. Served with Food Should Taste Good Multi-grain tortilla chips it turned out to be an amazing lunch.
